Alia strives for independence and a mature womanhood, finding no way to achieve this except by marrying a family friend, Aziz, who is the same age as her father. However, she discovers that she has become involved with a domineering and jealous man to the point of pathological cruelty, who treats her with nothing but cruelty and force to obey his orders. However, she grows stronger, matures intellectually, and becomes more aware of the realities of life and its shocks, until she meets a young doctor who falls in love with her and frees her from her husband’s prison after a horrific incident.
